This is a toy MIDI music box/controller combining some designs and mapping ideas from the “Hurd-E Gurd-E” project and “60s” project. The rotary encoder is mapped to a quantized MIDI sequences triggering a bell like sound in Ableton Live. The cover of the box are mapped to filter cut off frequency of the drone. This is a metaphor comes from acoustic pianos: when the cover of the piano is opened, it will sound bright; vice versa, if the cover of the piano is closed, the piano will sound darker. This is achieved by putting a photo-resistor inside the box and use the brightness as a measure if the box cover is opened or closed. The bottom is the front are triggering the drone sound in the background but could map to anything as the user assigned. There is also a IMU inside the box so when the box is turn to left or right will change the panning of the sound.
